Senior Adult Inpatient Treatment Programs

Senior Adult Inpatient Treatment Programs

St. Simons By-The-Sea provides compassionate behavioral health services on our geriatric unit for senior adults suffering from a psychiatric disorder or chemical dependency. Determining a senior adult’s need for inpatient treatment can be difficult because not all behaviors and conditions are psychiatric in nature.

Our inpatient treatment programs provide psycho-social assessments, psychiatric evaluation, medication management, group and family therapies, recreational therapy, life-skills training, medication education, nutritional counseling and discharge planning. In addition to family therapies, group therapies utilize orientation and memory activities, relaxation and activity-based therapies and wellness education. By discharge we hope to have fostered stability and recovery, identified the underlying issue(s), provided a diagnosis/diagnoses, as well as identified and helped our patients begin a path of success.

The geriatric unit is designed to help older adults regain mental health and behavioral stability for individuals suffering from issues related to:

  • Increased anxiety or agitation
  • Depression
  • Increased combativeness
  • Delusions or hallucinations
  • Suicidal thoughts
  • Substance use addictions
  • Disorientation or ongoing confusion
  • Memory or dementia related issues
  • Other serious mental health concerns
