Senior Adults

Senior Adult Treatment Program

St. Simons By-The-Sea provides compassionate behavioral health services for senior adults suffering from a psychiatric disorder or chemical dependency. Determining a senior adult’s need for inpatient treatment can be difficult because not all behaviors and conditions are psychiatric in nature. Our goal is to assess the situation and, if appropriate, respond with evidence-based care.

After a patient is admitted, we develop an individualized treatment plan to address his or her psychiatric and social needs. Inpatient treatment includes a psychiatric evaluation, daily psychiatric assessment, group psychotherapy, medication management, activity therapy, family education and illness/wellness education.

Problems we address:

  • Increased anxiety or agitation
  • Ongoing confusion or disorientation
  • Combative behaviors
  • Depression
  • Delusions or hallucinations
  • Dementia or increased memory issues
  • Suicidal thoughts
  • Addiction that requires detoxification in a medically monitored setting

Making a Referral

Clear documentation of the patient’s behaviors and condition is very helpful in determining if he or she may benefit from treatment at St. Simons By-The-Sea.

Information needed to make a referral:

  • Demographics (date of birth, social security number, insurance information)
  • Medication records or a list of medications
  • Current nursing and progress notes
  • Recent lab results and doctor visit notes
