What to Bring or Not Bring

In an effort to foster a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and staff, Saint Simons By-The-Sea has implemented room and personal search policies, including an identification of personal items allowed or prohibited within the facility. If you have further questions, please call 912-638-1999.

Please Bring (All Patients):

  • 3-5 days worth of clothes
  • List of important phone numbers (i.e. MD, therapist, etc.)
  • List of allergies
  • List of current medications with dosages
  • C-PAP/Bi-PAP (If Applicable)

Do Not Bring (All Patients):

  • Alcohol, drugs, needles or syringes
  • Smokeless tobacco and electronic cigarettes
  • Shoelaces, belts, scarves, drawstrings or suspenders
  • Paracord manufactured items (soft, lightweight nylon rope made up of a 32 strand woven nylon outer sheath with an inner core of yarns)
  • Glass or metal containers/items (including compacts, tobacco cans, etc.)
  • Sharp objects including scissors, knives, metal nail files, tweezers staples or paper clips
  • Razors, including electric razors or toothbrushes
  • Dental floss and/or toothpicks
  • Any open containers brought from home
  • Nail clippers
  • Weapons
  • Lighters, matches or strikers
  • Metal hair combs, brushes or picks
  • Bar soap
  • Body oils
  • Tank tops, halter tops or spaghetti strap shirts
  • Long tube socks
  • Clothing with illegal slogans or alcohol slogans
  • Steel toed boots
  • Flip flops
  • Underwire Bras
  • Handbags/purses, wallets, ZIP-IT Products, i.e. change purses, pencil cases, etc.
  • All jewelry, except wedding band
  • Pins, straight and safety, Bobbie pins, stretch headbands, dorags, etc. (No hats on youth unit)
  • All medications – must be placed/logged in black box prior to going to floor
  • Electronics (including cell phones, cameras, chargers, computers, tablets, headphones, mp3 players)
  • DVDs or CDs
  • Outside food/drinks (including gum and candy)
  • Any electrical appliance (excluding C-PAP machines)
  • Pornography
  • Pencils, pens, markers or crayons
  • Aerosol cans
  • Hangers
  • Plastic bags of any size
  • Outside blankets or pillows
  • Button batteries (may have in hearing aids)
  • Magnets (including magnetic toys)
  • Polymer bead/balls in products such as neck pillows, sensory toys and stress balls
  • Fidget spinners

*Recovery Rehab patients only are allowed to shave. This can only occur once weekly with supervision of therapist.

Adolescents Only:

  • May bring school books ONLY
  • Adolescents DO NOT need a calling card
