Adult Mental Health Intensive Outpatient Program

Our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) provides structured mental health support for adults who need more than traditional weekly therapy but do not require 24-hour care. Available in person or virtually, the program meets three days per week for three hours per session.

Outpatient Mental Health Treatment for Adults

The Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is a half-day program held three days per week for adults ages 18 and older. It is designed for individuals who need a higher level of care and more support than traditional weekly therapy, but don’t require the intensity or structure of a full-day program.

This program can provide additional support at different points in a person’s healing journey, including following hospitalization or when weekly individual therapy alone is not providing enough support.

Sessions are held Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Patients participate in structured therapeutic programming while continuing to live at home and maintain many of their everyday responsibilities.

The goal of our IOP is to promote the highest level of functioning for each patient. With additional support, patients can build coping techniques, strengthen communication skills and gain new perspectives on their mental health.

Virtual Intensive Outpatient Program (Virtual IOP)

For adults who need additional mental health support but may have difficulty attending treatment in person, St. Simons By-the-Sea offers a Virtual Intensive Outpatient Program (Virtual IOP).

Virtual IOP provides structured behavioral health treatment through a secure online format, allowing patients to participate from home or another appropriate private location. This option can be especially helpful for individuals with transportation challenges, busy schedules or limited ability to travel to campus.

Patients receive the support and structure of an intensive outpatient program while having the flexibility of virtual care. Sessions are held Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Virtual IOP may be a good fit for adults who:

  • Need more support than traditional weekly therapy
  • Want structured treatment while continuing to live at home
  • Have work, family, transportation or travel considerations
  • Are transitioning to a lower level of care and need continued support
  • Prefer the convenience and accessibility of receiving care virtually
