Adolescent Psychiatric and Addiction Treatment

Saint Simons By-The-Sea’s services for teens are highly intensive and are designed for individuals who are severely distressed or exhibiting dangerous behaviors.

The program focuses on attainable short and long-term goals established with the input of the family and referring professionals. Active family involvement is a vital component of the program and is designed to promote understanding and effective communication.

Because psychiatric problems may be complicated by co-existing substance abuse, Saint Simons By-The-Sea provides specialized groups to help address these issues.

Problems we address in our behavioral health programs:

  • Suicide threats
  • Dangerous behavior to self or others
  • Self-destructive behaviors
  • Depression
  • Hallucinations and/or delusional thinking
  • Severe alcohol or substance abuse

Saint Simons By-The-Sea utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as the primary strategy for its mental health programs. CBT allows the patient to take a more active role in their treatment. Patients gain power and control by modifying their feelings and actions. This approach, coupled with medication management, provides a comprehensive treatment program. The daily schedule includes individual and group therapy, recreation therapy, and wellness education. Patients are treated in an intensive therapeutic environment that provides medical and psychiatric stabilization and 24-hour nursing care.

Problems we address:

  • Suicidal thoughts
  • Extreme anger and/or dangerous behavior
  • Depression
  • Schizophrenia
  • Hallucinations and/or delusional thinking
  • Phobias
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Physical/sexual abuse
  • Severe alcohol or substance abuse
